The new IACC class made its debut in 1992. Il Moro di Venezia was the
italian boat used to compete in the Louis Vuitton Cup, the races to
select the America's Cup challenger. Designers were facing for the
first time the new rule; this made it necessary to build five versions
of Il Moro to have a really competitive boat. Results came soon: Il
Moro V won the Louis Vuitton Cup and raced the America's Cup where it
was defeated 4-1 from Bill Koch's America3.
The
model I designed is a 1/20 replica of the boat that
is in my opinion one of the most beautiful IACC
yachts. The distinctive features of this boat are
a rather pronounced maximum beam and sections with
sloping sides that become vertical near the bow.
I replicated all of this aspects in my design, trying
to merge a realistical look with the technical aspects
needed to have a performing hull.
Specifications:
- scale: 1/20
- lenght over all: 1.145
m
- displacement: 4.2 kg
- bulb: 2.5 kg
- sail area: 78 dm2
